“Convergent Cognizance of a Multitude of views and beings Extolling their Inner Light “ is a celebration of the local flora and fauna of South Florida. I am inspired by the diversity and energy that occurs in our ecosystems and want to encourage people to share my sentiments. The 3 panels refer to water, synthesis, and birds. Water connects everything, flora, fauna and the birds readily apparent in our environment, and somewhere in between there is a synthesis or magic happening. Each panel has videos of the subject matter akin to a dream. They are meticulously crafted like moving paintings after filming the scenes. The linear flowing lights surrounding the 3 panels are symbolic of the various energies of life converging into our region and representative of human and species migration. These lights slowly change colors as they cascade towards the panels. Colors are mapped to different energy signatures in the videos. Behind each panel, a diffuse aura emanates from another set of lights, glowing blue/green during the day and changing to a dusky pink and coral towards the evening. The work is always in flux, slowly changing like the ebb and flow of the tide and reminds us we share this land with some interesting biodiversity.

The Joys of Broward Illuminated
The Joys of Broward Illuminated , Governmental Center Building,Fort Lauderdale,FL Completion 11.2017
Video Art, mixed media, artifacts,LED lighting and electronics. Governmental Center Building,Fort Lauderdale,FL
Statement:
I wanted to bring elements of nature from Broward County into the building to enhance a sense of belonging and emotional well being. The video light pillars are windows to the natural world by showing elements of nature with video, sound, lighting, and actual artifacts. The pillars provide a sense of the natural wonders we have right in our own backyard by reminding and showing moving images of the flora and fauna in Broward County. Poetic visions of our natural wonders are presented in extremely slow motion so one can view the motion of waves, the fluttering wings of bees and the flight of birds. Each video light pillar exudes warmth and wellbeing with soothing sounds and appropriate video imagery. This is complimented with natural artifacts inset into the pillars including urchins, sand dollars, sea grape leaves, and assorted seeds. The video and audio were shot around Broward County parks and wildlife spaces including TY park, Tree Tops Park, Dania Beach, Hollywood Beach, Fern Forest, Secret Woods, Ann Kolb Nature Center, Lauderdale by the Sea, and the Everglades.
The 2 Led nature forms were inspired by the trees in TY Park and the ibis I see everywhere. The tree reminds us of the natural shelter they provide and the ibis a playful icon. I wanted to provide this element for children who visited with their parents. While I was filming at the various locations, I was continually reminded of the rich flora and fauna and its benefits to my own psyche. I see the finished installation as a regenerative experience that will connect people back to nature and remind us of what’s in our own backyard.

We are a small part of the cosmos, and our energies are linked to it. Ideas of regeneration, growth, and sustainability emerge from the cocoon of the pandemic to be deployed internally and for the world around us. In our existence, we ask ourselves what are our responsibilities to the universe? A selection of 3 separate video projections will feature elements from ancient forests, lava caves, fossils, flora, and fauna fused with text, moving mandalas, and light fields to encourage and raise consciousness about our place in the universe.
The web content for this installation includes longer full length video art works for viewers with sound. You may choose to view the physical installation visually and play the sound from one or all 3 of these works on your phone.
